TOEIC® Listening Part 1: Photographs

TOEIC® Listening Part 1 consists of 6 questions. For each question, a photo is displayed and you hear 4 audio descriptions (A, B, C, D). You must choose the description that best matches the photo. It is the most accessible part of the test: the photos provide clear visual context, and the sentences are generally short and straightforward. For a complète overview of all sections, see our guide on TOEIC® test content.

The 30-Second Method

Follow these 3 steps for each Part 1 question:

  1. Scan the photo (5 seconds): Identify the subject (who or what), the action (what are they doing), and the location (where is the scene taking place). Note important objects and people's positions.
  2. Listen to all 4 options completely: Never stop at the first option that sounds correct. Distractors are designed to trap test-takers who answer too quickly.
  3. Eliminate and choose: Mentally cross off options that do not match. If you are torn between two, choose the one that most accurately describes the main action in the photo.
